Forms of rejecting the Qur’aan:

One: to refuse to listen to it, have faith in it and pay attention to it.
Two: to refuse to act according to it, abide by its lawful and unlawful commandments, even if the person reads it and has faith in it.
Three: to reject its arbitration and litigation according to its principles and branches of the religion and to believe that its words are not meant to be indisputable, and that its proofs are verbal and do not reach the level of real knowledge.
Four: to reject careful consideration of it, and fail to understand it and learn that which the Speaker intended.
Five: to reject seeking medication with it concerning all the diseases of the heart, by seeking the cure of such diseases from other than it.

Lessons from the Manner in Which Prophet Ibrahim (‘alayhi-sallam) Advised his Father

Ibrahim invited his father to Allaah with gentleness and patience. For example, Allaah says:

“And mention in the Book (the Qur’aan) Ibrahim (Abraham). Verily! He was a man of truth, a Prophet. When he said to his father: ‘O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything?’ ‘O my father! Verily! There has come to me of knowledge that which came not unto you. So follow me. I will guide you to a Straight Path.’ ‘O my father! Worship not shaytaan (Satan). Verily! Shaytaan (Satan) has been a rebel against the Most Beneficent (Allaah).’ ‘O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allaah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of shaytaan (Satan) (in the Hell-fire).’ He (the father) said: ‘Do you reject my gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)? If you stop not (this), I will indeed stone you. So get away from me safely before I punish you.’ Ibrahim (Abraham) said: ‘Peace be on you! I will ask Forgiveness of my Lord for you. Verily! He is unto me, Ever Most Gracious.’ ‘And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allaah. And I shall call on my Lord; and I hope that I shall not be unblest in my invocation to my Lord.’ So when he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allaah, We gave him Ishaaque (Isaac) and Ya’qoob (Jacob), and each one of them We made a Prophet. And We gave them of Our Mercy (a good provision in plenty), and We granted them honour on the tongues (of all the nations, i.e. everybody remembers them with a good praise).” (Maryam 19:41:50)

The following are some lessons and notes from the above aayaat:

The Superiority of Memorising the Qur’aan

Posted in Qur'aan & Tafseer by Aboo Uthmaan on March 27th, 2008

Imaam Abu Zakariya an-Nawawee (d.676H) said:

“So the first thing he should begin with is memorisation of the mighty Qur‘aan, which is the most important branches of knowledge. And the Salaf did not use to teach hadeeth or fiqh, except to one who memorised the Qur‘aan. So when he has memorised it, then let him beware of pre-occupying himself from it with hadeeth, fiqh or other things, to the extent that it leads him to forget anything of the Qur’aan, or makes that likely.” (Al-Majmoo’ Sharh al-Muhadhhab, 1/3 8)

The Believers are Indeed Successful

Posted in Acts of Worship, Purification of the Soul, Qur'aan & Tafseer, Tafseer by Aboo Uthmaan on February 17th, 2008

By Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan as-Sa’dee (d.1376H)

Allaah, the Exalted says:

“Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Salaat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allaah has forbidden). And those who pay the Zakaat. And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts) except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, for then, they are free from blame; But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors; Those who are faithfully true to their Amanaat (all the duties which Allaah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts etc.) and to their covenants; And those who strictly guard their (five compulsory congregational) Salawaat (prayers) (at their fixed stated hours). These are indeed the inheritors. Who shall inherit the Firdaus (Paradise). They shall dwell therein forever.” (Al-Mu’minun 23:1-11)

Eight characteristics are mentioned herein and all of them inculcate faith and strengthen it just as they are also part and parcel of faith, the explanation of this has preceded.

Is the Qur’aan a Proof for You or a Proof Against You?

The Qur’aan is a proof for the believer who establishes what is required of him/her regarding this Noble Book. The requirement is stated in the great hadeeth in which the Prophet (sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) declared that:

“Religion is advice…”

He (sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) clarified that part of this advice is:

“To Allaah, His Book…” (Reported by Muslim)

Advice to the Book of Allaah has many aspects to it, including:
